Allyson Felix wins bronze at world championships

“I felt the love, And I felt joy running tonight.”

Allyson Felix

For 15 memorable seconds Friday night at the world crowns, Allyson Felix was sprinting alone in the sun, cruising past the daisies and far ahead of the field down the backstretch. A many twinkles latterly, she was taking her recently won prize and hanging it around her 3- time-old son’s neck.

She’s 36 now. So it was no huge shock that a runner 11 times her inferior, Marileidy Paulino of the winning Dominican Republic platoon, ultimately reeled her in. No big shame, either, that the U.S., saving the rest of its vaunted star power for big races over the coming nine days of this match, finished third in the mixed,600- cadence relay, also behind the Netherlands.

The third- place finish still gave Felix her 19th order at world crowns, extending a record she formerly held. Adding it to the 11 she’s taken at the Olympics, she ’ll end her career with an indeed 30 at her sport’s biggest events.

Some might say a citation order feels like a letdown for the most decorated sprinter in U.S. history. Others, however, including Felix herself, compare it to the citation she won in the women’s 400 last time at the Tokyo Olympics — an order she ranks as one of her most cherished triumphs.

“ It’s an analogous emotion,“ The last couple of times, I ’ve stepped outside of just the timepiece and the orders, and I never would have imagined that would have been a place where I would come to. ”

Allyson Felix

The formerly-shy teenager is now an open advocate for women and mothers both in and out of sports. The importance of that stemmed from getting a mama , also fighting, and ultimately leaving, Nike, which cut her payment while she was pregnant.

Allyson Felix also had an exigency C- section eight weeks short of her due date. It left both her and her son, Cammy, fighting for survival in a sanitarium room. Any running at each, let alone orders to go with it, feel like a perk at this point.

“ There is not one single story that can explain the impact that she had on the sport, ”

Elijah Godwin

who ran the first leg and was the last teammate to hand the cane to Felix.” Over the span of the times she did it, she came an icon, and for us to come out and contend with her, it’s a blessing to have that occasion.”

Google got into the act. A hunt of Felix’s name Friday night brought up all her credentials, overlaid by vitality of her sprinting across the computer screen followed by the words “ Olympian Mother Advocate. ”

Allyson Felix was entered only in the mixed relay after failing to qualify for the worlds in an individual race. When her name was blazoned at the morning, the two- thirds-full house at the first world crowns to be held in the United States cheered as loudly as they had all night.

Until, that is, she hit the backstretch.

Godwin had a slim lead when he passed her the cane, and for the first 200 measures of her final stage around the track, Felix extended the periphery. Her arms were pumping and knees were remonstrating high with that near-perfect form that can only belong to her. But she faded after she rounded her final wind and was caught by Paulino

Her passions as she crossed the line?

“ The first thing I felt was lactic acid, ”

Allyson Felix

Vernon Norwood reacquired the lead on the third leg, but the Dominican’s Fiordaliza Cofil caught American Kennedy Simon on the anchor, and also hurdler Femke Bol made a huge late charge to give the Netherlands the tableware. The Dominican Republic won in 3 twinkles, 9.82 seconds, with a periphery of 0.08 seconds.

“I’ve defeated her two times, But for me she will always be the best in the world. She has opened a better path for all of us.”

Paulino (who finished second in the 400 in Tokyo)

The U.S. finished in 310.16. The stat distance said Allyson Felix ran her final 400 measures in 50.15 seconds. It’s nowhere near the 47.72-alternate split she ran in a gold- order,600 relay at worlds in 2015 — still the swift by an American woman but that was hardly the point.

“It just feels like we’re part of history,” Godwin said. “And to have a picture with her, that’s the most important to me. I just want my picture with her, and to be remembered for this.”

Allyson Felix’s last order limited an opening day that also featured heats in the men’s 100.

American Fred Kerley, last time’s Olympic tableware semifinalist, finished his race in 9.79 seconds — a blazing-fast time for a primary round that was only 0.03 off his season high and was 0.01 faster than Italian Marcel Jacobs’ palm last time in Tokyo.

All the other big names advanced Jacobs, Marvin Bracy, Olympic citation semifinalist Andre De Grasse, 2011 world champion Yohan Blake and Christian Coleman, who’s defending his world title after missing the Olympics because of a suspense related to missed doping tests.

The match’s first orders came in the 20- kilometer race walk, where Kimberly Garcia won Peru’s first order at the worlds in a time of 126.28. Toshikazu Yamanishi of Japan successfully defended his men’s title in 119.07.

But it was the night’s last orders that everyone at Hayward Field will flash back .

Allyson Felix smiled extensively as World Athletics chairman Sebastian Coe hung the citation around her neck and alternate gentleman Douglas Emhoff, on hand for the donation, shook her hand.

Felix stood straight as the Dominican Republic’s public hymn played. But she felt like the winner. Her last race in the big- time came in her home country, with her son there to watch.

“ Obviously, I am not in the florescence of my career, but to be suitable to finish then tonight, with Cammy in the daises, and to partake that moment with her, it means a lot,”
